Questions and Answers

Are there groups in the Phila. area in which people 60+ can explore job possibilities (part and full-time)in and outside their own field also? (How do we reinvent ourselves and our career possibilities after 60?) The group could be in the form of a series of sessions in the support group model, counseling , or even a type of class group discussion format. I definitely am looking to explore as part of a group format. Thank you, Carolyn

Dear Carolyn,

Thanks so much for writing to our site. You have asked an excellent question - one that I am sure will interest many other visitors to Work in Retirement.

I have been able to identify two possibilities that you may find of interest. While they are not on-going groups, you will have the opportunity to connect with Boomers who are exploring next steps and reinventing themselves.

One is a three session workshop on REINVENTING YOUR RETIREMENT in which you will learn more about yourself and ways to use your skills and talents in a productive, fulfilling manner. Topics include identifying skills, values and interests; exploring options; and learning from others who have experienced this transition. This workshop is being held at Neumann College (www.neumann.edu) October 13, 20, 27 with an excellent facilitator, Carol Dougherty, M.S., LPC . The time is 9:00–11:00 a.m. and donations will be accepted in lieu of a workshop fee.

Transformations, a holistic learning center recently started in New Jersey has two events concerning Boomers - one is an hour breakout group at their Holistic Learning Conference on October 6th in Mount Laurel, NJ and a day session on Saturday, November 3rd at their center in Voorhees, NJ.  Two of our Coming of Age Explore Your Future Guides, John Creveling and Christina Robertson, are part of the faculty at Transformations and will be expertly conducting these sessions.  See  www.readytotransform.com for more information.

We will continue to look for support or workshop groups that might be out there that would provide the on-going group support that you are seeking. If anyone reading this knows of such a group, we encourage you to send the information to us here at Coming of Age and we will share it with our visitors.

We wish you luck in your own exploration Carolyn.
