Family caregivers are the primary source of support for individuals of all ages with physical, mental, and chronic health conditions; and not surprisingly, 7 out of 10 caregivers are caring for loved ones over 50 years old. For ten years, the National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP) has provided much-needed services.To recognize NFCSP’s decade of achievement, the U.S. Administration on Aging is collaborating with national caregiver organizations to sponsor a year of celebration. Coming Soon On Seniors’ Storytelling Day at the Free Library of Philadelphia, 1901 Vine Street, on November 14th at 2 p.m., be ready to smile, laugh and even cry as our city’s seniors take the stage to read stories that they have written, and answer questions from the audience. These performers are members of The Best Day of My Life (So Far) multimedia storytelling project at the Philadelphia Senior Center that connects older adults with younger generations. FREE. Join the Philadelphia Corporation of Aging and StoryCorps in celebrating the third annual “National Day of Listening” on Friday, November 26th. On the day after Thanksgiving, Americans will set aside an hour to interview a friend, a loved one, or someone in their community about his or her life. PCA will be recording interviews with local older adults and posting them on the StoryCorps website. Any individual or organization can participate in the National Day of Listening. How do people feel about contributing to nonprofits? A recent Harris Poll of more than 2,500 adults surveyed nationally online in mid-September reported that Americans have changed their behaviors toward donating their time or money as a result of the economy, but that substantial numbers still indicate a willingness to make contributions, albeit smaller ones and to fewer organizations. In terms of personal involvement in their communities and social causes, a significant minority are willing to be actively involved. To learn more, click here.
