A follow up on last week's news: Those wanting to know if they are eligible for Pennsylvania's Property Tax/Rent Rebate program (application deadline extended to December 31st) or other government benefits... and want help applying... can call BenePhilly at 800-236-2194. BenePhilly is a free resource that helps those 65 and older receive state and federal benefits for which they are eligible.

Be a Fan Fair Fan

The Philadelphia Senior Center is looking for help distributing fans during the summer season to keep older adults safe and comfortable during hot weather. Fan Fairs are scheduled during heat emergencies, and there are sometimes only 24 hours notice to get one scheduled. Consider volunteering to help others beat the heat. Use Your Computer Skills to Aid Nonprofits

RSVP of Montgomery County has volunteer openings for web designers and those with computer skills to assist small to mid-sized nonprofits in the Delaware Valley. Through a Coming of Age Make a BIG Difference Team grant, RSVP continues to help organizations diagnose web problems and determine computer solutions in a timely, inexpensive way. Prospective volunteers must complete a Skills Inventory and be interviewed by the program administrator. Contact Elaine Gershenson or call (610) 834-1040.

Docents Needed at Penn Museum

The University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology is accepting applications for its Volunteer Docent program. Volunteer Docents receive training to develop and lead tours through Penn Museum’s permanent and special exhibition galleries, featuring materials from ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, the ancient Greek and Roman worlds, and more. Northern Homes Opening for Resource Parent Specialist

Northern Home for Children needs a Resource Parent Certification Specialist who will be responsible for the certification and recertification of resource homes within its foster, kinship, and adoption programs. The Resource Parent Certification Specialist will also provide training opportunities for prospective and current resource parents. Bachelors Degree required; Master’s preferred. Organize a Library for Children

Your help is needed to organize the library of Joseph C. Ferguson Elementary School in North Philadelphia and create an organized system for all of the teachers' resource books. You'll be helping the children of Ferguson get access to books and to love reading even more! There are two shifts, but you are welcome to volunteer for the day. PACE is unique. It is an optional benefit under both Medicare and Medicaid that focuses entirely on older people who are frail enough to meet their state's standards for nursing home care.
