Older Adults Can Solve Drop-Out Crisis

Experience Corps and AARP Pennsylvania, a Coming of Age founding partner, are working together to slow down the drop-out rate in Philadelphia. A two-year study of Experience Corps, a national program that engages retirees to tutor children in elementary schools, shows a significant improvement in literacy in the children served. "Boomeritis" Hits Older Athletes

A spokesman for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons reported that doctors are seeing a "tidal wave" of 45-to 64-year-olds suffering from exercise-related injuries that physicians have dubbed "boomeritis." Wal-Mart Grants Promote Better Lives

Through its State Giving Program, the Wal-Mart Foundation supports organizations who have programs that align with its mission to create positive, long-lasting opportunities to help people live better. State Advisory Councils determine each state's needs and make funding recommendations to the Foundation in four areas: Education, Workforce Development/Economic Opportunity, Health & Wellness, and Environmental Sustainability.
