Recognizing the need for action, advocates have catapaulted the Elder Justice Act into the discussion of healthcare reform. Both the House and Senate are proposing bills for a nationwide program of background checks for people who care for the elderly and creating oversight within the Department of Health and Human Services for coordinating state and federal anti-abuse efforts.

The Philadelphia Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, in partnership with the Department of Commerce, has announced a new grant program to support job creation in Philadelphia's creative sector. The total funding allocated for the program is $500,000 -- one-time funding provided through the federal stimulus program. Approximately 10 grants in the range of $20,000 - $100,000 will be available to nonprofit and for profit creative businesses for projects such as renovated office space, mixed-use facilities, and artist workspace. Applications are due on December 18th.

Have We Got an Opportunity for You! Fleisher Art Memorial, the nation’s oldest tuition-free art school, is seeking an instructor for a workshop for children ages 3 to 5 (accompanied by an adult). Young children will be introduced to art and allowed to explore different processes in two one-hour sessions on Tuesdays (9:30 - 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. - noon) during the ten week Winter Semester (Jan 11 - March 22). Instructor must have at least 2-3 years experience working with this age group. Application deadline: December 11, 2009.

The National Museum of American Jewish History is looking for a Curatorial Assistant to join its collections and exhibitions department and support the team developing an exhibition for the Museum’s new building, scheduled to open in November 2010. Administrative experience, excellent organization and communication skills, and at least one year’s experience working in a museum setting or related field are required.
