After serving 4 years on the Independence City Council some supporters asked me torun for Mayor. I was apprehensive—could I really do that? Then I remembered that workshop speaker andhis story!

I was elected Mayor in l982 – the year I turned 50! What a marvelous experience! Because of that decision I have been blessed in meeting so many fascinatingpeople and participating in so many interesting civic organizations for which Iam extremely grateful.
