Teach school kids the basics of money management

Cities: Oakland

In the last ten years, the number of bankruptcies among 18-24 year olds has increased by 96%. You can help by teaching Money Savvy Youth to fourth and fifth graders in Oakland public schools. Kids who understand the basics of money management are more prepared to build sound financial futures for themselves. By volunteering to teach the course, you will help create a brighter future for low income communities.

MSY helps kids create a foundation of knowledge upon which to build their financial futures. Volunteer teachers are required to work with large groups of kids, ages 10 – 12, and foster a healthy working environment, while delivering lessons, grading students’ work, and tracking students’ progress in the course. While developing and enhancing their own skills in classroom instruction, group facilitation and youth mentoring, volunteers will empower students to take control of their financial futures and contribute to positive change in the Oakland community.
