Be a Volunteer Writer Coach to help Oakland Teens Succeed
WriterCoach Connection brings one-on-one help to students on their classroom writing assignments by taking teams of trained community volunteers in to high school English classes. Founded in 2001 in Berkeley, WCC is expanding in Oakland, and volunteers are needed to encourage, challenge, and inspire students to write more clearly and think more deeply. And, says one teacher, "the writing improves dramatically."
The commitment is only 1-2 hours per week, 2-4 weeks each month, during the school year. Training provided. Coaching begins in October and trainings are underway. For more information or to register: www.WriterCoachConnection.org. For further questions, contact Oakland Volunteer Coordinator, Karen Larson, at OaklandWriterCoaches@gmail.com or 510-558-8806. This is a rewarding volunteer opportunity in the public schools which attracts volunteers of all ages.
Meet regularly with students in their English class to work on their writing and critical thinking. Focus is on clarity of thought, organization, strong supporting details and developing writer's voice.
